Save Downtown Manchester (SDM) committee is comprised of Manchester residents, business owners, and social clubs along Main Street. SDM is not against improvements and welcomes the need for them. However, we have heard from an overwhelming majority of stakeholders, business owners, and members of the public from across both aisles, that do not support the town’s plan. Therefore, we are exercising our right to petition.
On Tuesday, April 2nd, at the ten (10) Primary Voting locations Save Downtown Manchester volunteer circulators will be collecting signatures. Circulators will be presenting a Petition for Ordinance seeking signatures from registered Manchester voters and presenting our website via QR Code.
Any registered voter interested in exercising their right to petition are welcome to contact us directly at savedowntownmanchester@gmail.com and visit our website at savedowntownmanchesterct.com. A circulator will connect with them directly to obtain their signature.
Our website has information proposing alternative recommendations to the Town of Manchester’s proposed Street Scape Plan. Please visit the website for other information provided.
In addition, you can find Save Downtown Manchester, CT on Facebook
In accordance with the Manchester Town Charter, once 5% of the registered voters have signed the petition, it is submitted to the town clerk. The Board of Directors are required to vote on the ordinance. If the Board of Directors does not pass the ordinance, they are required to hold a special election referendum within 90 days following filing of said ordinance with the town clerk.
